FOCUS is a faculty development
program supported through Academic Affairs and designed to emphasize
the value of civic and community engagement at Illinois State University.
Its secondary purpose is to incorporate civic and community engagement
opportunities for students into classes and degree programs at Illinois
State University. This series of five instructional modules is designed to introduce you to the idea of civic and community engagement and to teach you how to incorporate them into your curriculum. Learning outcomes are available at the beginning of each module. The modules include:
To navigate through the modules you may use the 'continue' and 'back' navigation located at the bottom of the pages, the left-side navigation, or a combination of both.
As you go through the modules you will be asked to reflect on your own thoughts about certain concepts and ideas and think about how you might accommodate civic and community engagement related activities into existing or new assignments and projects. As you do so, you will be given opportunities to record your thoughts. You may use the text boxes provided on the pages and print, or you may open the FOCUS Word Document provided to record your thoughts; keep the document open as you progress through and save periodically. There is one FOCUS Notes Document for the first three modules and one each for the Political Engagement and Innovative Partnerships modules.
